Here's hoping they'll wise up like XBox did with their first controller. Anyone remember that monstrosity?

Wow where do i begin here? I have been monitoring the so called next generation of gaming pretty closely being that i am a very avid video game fan. The Wii is not going to be the system that is the best system that everyone owns. but if you read that last sentence again you will see that it is 'the system that everyone owns'. I think that a lot of what will make the Wii a great system is the party factor. Nintendo for a while has been setting there direction toward multi player games with a very low learning curve and a very high satisfaction factor while playing them. While it can be said that the games on the game cube generally target a younger audience lets not forget great games like Metroid or Resident Evil 4, or even mario (kart / party / sunshine). Now granted: I realize that most of the people on this forum will never pick up a game with 'sunshine' in the title for all of our own various different reasons but that does not detract from the fact that the games are a ton of fun and easy to pick up and play. The Wii will have an enormous market of first party exclusive titles that will only be playable on the Wii. Zelda in and of itself is enough for me but there will be much MUCH MUCH more than just that. However as mentioned before the Wii will thrive when there is a group of people at your house that all want to play a video game. You will be able to pop in a game that is geared toward multi player and everyone will be able to pick it up and have fun with it immediately. In addition to this it will be something to show off to people that have never seen the motion sensing controller. That in and of it self is enough to make people go out and buy it. The real gem hear though is the fact that Nintendo will be opening up there past library of games for the systems that we all grew up with and making them available to the gamers on the Wii much like xbox live arcade works. Now if that still isn't enough you are also getting the Sega libraries and all of the Turbo Graffix 16 stuff -(bonks adventure anyone?)-. Now I know what you are thinking how am i going to be able to play games like punch out on the Wii with this new contorller... Well Nintendo is releasing a 'Classic" controller that will be just for that purpose. It basicly looks like a cross between a Playstation controller and a SNES controller. So if you are not sold on the Wii yet than you probably aren't playing videogames... oh and did i mention that it will be between $150 and $350 cheaper than there competition. Now as i stated before Wii will not be THE BEST SYSTEM of this generation but Nintendo will definitely own the market share. How is this possible??? Well if you look at Sony and Microsoft and what there strategies are with selling consoles they are what I consider an "OR" company. You will either own an Xbox 360 OR a PS3. Most of us will not own both at least for a little while. Nintendo how ever is not an OR company they are an AND company. You will own a PS3 and a Wii. Or you will own an Xbox AND a wii. therefore they will move many more units of there system than either of there competitive systems. They even have the spokesman for Sony and Microsoft encouraging consumers to go out and buy a wii (after they purchase there respective systems of course). The Price point only confirms all of what i am saying - that and the fact that there will be no shortage of Wii consoles at launch unlike the 360 or PS3. Now as far as the platform war between Microsoft and Sony - well i think Sony is done. I could be wrong here but lets just look at the obvious facts. Sony is marketing there machine as a blue ray player in an effort to justify the 600 dollar price point. Now we all know that all companies except for Nintendo take a loss when selling there systems but the absolute cheapest blue ray player that you can buy on the market right now is $!,000.00! so that means that just to make a profit on only the blue ray drive within the PS3 Sony would have to sell there system for at least $1000.00. That does not include the cost of the cell processors or the PS2 chip or any of the other hardware like there wannabe motion sensing controller that will come with the machine. Sony has painted themselves into a corner and borrowed money from everyone they can just to be able to make the PS3 happen and they haven't even started manufacturing commercial units yet because there quality ratio is less than 50%. That means that for every PS3 that they manufacture less than half of them will work. What kind of cost do you think that that adds to there ability to manufacture the system. Now i know that a lot of people out there are wondering about the hole Blue ray / HDdvd format war and how it is going to turn out. My thoughts are this. Blue ray has the potential THE POTENTIAL to be a better format than HD dvd but right now we do not poses the technology to create blue ray media at its potential - In fact the blue ray media that we can create is not even as good as the HD DVD media that we are already creating. Therefore it will be a good long amount of time before you will see any real benefits of buying into blue ray (if the format does not go under like every other format war that Sony has started...Betamax...minidisc...umd...) And really how many people here have the HD TV to get any benefit from blue-ray at all?

...basically, yeah. Wii looks like a good, solid system. I might own one, especially at it's low price point. Sorry, I don't feel like blowing a whole paycheck on a fucking video game system, Sony. Assholes.

I'm still curious on it's disc size. Are they going to keep using the same stupid GC-sized discs and still forfeit the DVD possibility?
Another question: Nintendo Wii fans - Are they going to be referred as "Wiiners" or "Weiners"..?
lol@stupidly named consoles
