I follow music from everywhere. San Diego gots some badass shit, and the LA breakbeat scene it hawt. South Jersey's punk, Chicago's industrial, Rhode Island's hip-hop. And of course all the Florida bands I used to go see all the time. I have more local music in my collection from allover the place than shit you'd recognize. I don't get the coastal thing, I draw on both for inspiration when I make music. There's something good from everywhere.
So what's good out in Cali G-fresh? What gets your panties twisted? Killmeplz?

dude, im not talking about any other place then here am i? no... san diego has mediocre shit going on, the la music scene is so plagued by retarded music, there no use trying to look for local bands here... everyone and their grandmothers, has a band. california's local scene died around 2000 and guess what, this decade is almost done, so its been buried for quite a while now.

Local bands are usually unsigned and play a lot locally for lack or tour funding. It really depends I guess, Mushroomhead could easily be considered a local band, they always play in/around Cleveland and throw big bashes and do special reunion shows and shit. But they're megafamous tourmachines too. For bands like them and Crossbreed, when you've been doing it so many years and get such a loyal following in your area, I suppose it's hard to move past that.

Theres signed, unsigned, local, and underground... With any of the combination above.
Like dingle implies, all terms can be used loosely. Signed and unsigned speaks for itself. I agree with what dingle said about local. underground, is something thats usually done word of mouth, bands that are great and usually unsigned, and play behind the scenes. Local bands usually play either in actual venues while underground bands play in places they shouldnt be. The shows are a ton different too. You can say that underground shows are like rave parties with bands instead of djs, lots of sex, lots of drugs, people fighting, that whole shit. Of course theres always an exception. Music wise it can vary, there are great bands everywhere.

I dont think local = big venue, when i think local i think of them playing someones basement or the senior center in marshall. that place is bangin!
syn, i dont know if you've ever been to a punk rock concert, but all of the aforementioned things (fighting, sex, and drugs) (minus huge rave pants, + mohawks and leather) are at those... oh, and attempts by bands to get you to go to peace rallies. Are the casualties underground, signed to sideone dummy? that makes no sense

The Casualties just kick ass beyond explanation. The end. Their singer is the coolest guy on the planet.

you should read all of it.. .i said there are some exceptions and thats for everything...
i didnt say HUGE venues, i said ACTUAL venues theres a big difference. Places like the knitting factory isnt a huge venue, but its still a venue. Local bands can play anywhere, some even open for bigger bands, take example the louisville local scene, theres something called LRSfest (getting lame now) a day full of music that includes both local and bigger bands, NOT in a venue but an actual concert stage (which is really the epitome of gigs).
AND finally, i said ANY OF THE COMBINATIONS. So lets break it down and do the math. There are four choices with the possibility of three titles which is either SIGNED LOCAL UNDERGROUND or UNSIGNED LOCAL UNDERGROUND. Minus those two, you can have "signed local", "unsigned local", "signed underground",and "unsigned underground". The casualties are well known, i think that got them cut out of being underground or at least i think so, all the poseurs here love em, they have them on their pant flap thing. Funny thing is if you ask them whats their favorite band they mention some MTV band. Local is of course situational, since living in the same city will have to mean theyre local to you. Underground is usually UNSIGNED because they arent really heard of by record labels since its sincerely for music and not for anything else and the music is either said through word of mouth, so theres no need to pay for promotions or get any other merch out. of course they CAN be signed, to any label actually, but like i said, once you get signed you will probably lose your UNDERGROUND status. Im not saying underground is better, i just think the best bands are underground since there is less rules to abide by. Besides I for one can vouch for underground having the worst bands. Less censorship = more room to talk about whatever the fuck you want. but again, its like calling someone a punk even though that means prostitute, its really only just a label/idea
cheerio kid, and oh yeah, about the casualties playing thing, those things were just examples. Its more really to say what type of place it was.
